Another coordinated operation for the repatriation of foreigners who were illegally residing in the Republic of Cyprus was carried out by the Police.

In cooperation with FRONTEX, 15 third-country nationals were repatriated yesterday 04/04/2025, in a coordinated joint return flight operated by the Greek Authorities, in which the Cyprus Police also participated.

This is the 5th participation of the Aliens & Migration Service in FRONTEX joint operations for the year 2025.

It is noted that for the first three months of 2025, 3737 people who were illegally residing in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus have been repatriated through the forced and voluntary return procedures. During the corresponding period last year, the total number of returns/expulsions amounted to 2901.

It is noted that the total number of arrivals of irregular migrants for the first three months of 2025 amounted to 624, while for the corresponding period last year, the total number of arrivals amounted to 2981.

The efforts of the Police and the Aliens and Immigration Service, to maximize the number of returns, continue.

As part of the investigation of a case concerning the offenses of robbery, possession of offensive instruments and stabbing, committed on the evening of March 31, 2025 in Limassol, the Police proceeded to arrest a person.

He is a 22-year-old man, who was arrested on the basis of a court warrant and taken into custody.

It is recalled that on the afternoon of April 1st, a 20-year-old man reported to the Police that around 8.30 p.m. on Monday (31/03), while he was riding his electric bicycle in an area of Limassol, he was approached by two people, who were riding a motorcycle, and called him to stop.

He, as he said, refused to stop and continued his course, while the two suspects followed him and after attacking and kicking him, he lost his balance and as a result fell to the ground.

Then, according to the 20-year-old, he ran to a nearby bakery to protect himself and after a few minutes, about 10 more people gathered, who were in possession of clubs and knives and attempted to attack him and a friend, while both managed to move away from the area.

According to the complainant, the persons in question stole his electric scooter and a small bag containing his wallet with a sum of money and his mobile phone.

A total of 11.5 kilos of cannabis were found and confiscated yesterday by the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN), in the Larnaca district, after an evaluation of information and coordinated actions.

As part of the investigation of the case, members of the British Bases, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today proceeded to the arrest of a 29-year-old man.

According to information from Filenews, he went to pick up the four packages from a courier company and was located in Bases in the area of Vrysoula. This is a Greek Cypriot who is employing the Police for the first time.

The suspect will be taken to court tomorrow by members of the British bases, for the issuance of a detention order.

The YKAN continues its investigations.

A new operation was carried out at Larnaca Airport by the Ministry of Transport in cooperation with the Customs Authorities, after the detection of a large quantity of drugs.

In the luggage of a woman who arrived from abroad, a quantity of cannabis weighing about 37 kilograms was found.

This is a 34-year-old woman from the United States who arrived in Cyprus with 2 suitcases from Paris via Amsterdam and Brussels

As stated in a statement by the Customs Department, during the radiodiagnostic test of the passenger's two pieces of luggage, it became clear that their contents were probably narcotic, while during the physical control that followed, cannabis with a total gross weight of 36 kg and 600 grams was found, which were packaged in 31 and 30 nylon airtight packages respectively. It is added that the passenger was arrested for flagrant offenses and the drugs were confiscated by the officers of the Customs Department. Later, both the passenger and the drugs were handed over to the Larnaca Airport Police Station for further investigation of the case.

It is noted that within ten days more than 100 kilos of cannabis were seized in four different cases, all in the Larnaca district.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 220 kilos of cannabis have been found and confiscated by the Police.

Regarding a case of assault and theft, committed in Larnaca, last Wednesday evening, April 03, members of the Police proceeded to the arrest of two persons aged 18 and 16, pursuant to court warrants, issued following evidence that emerged during the investigation of the case.

According to the data under investigation, around 11.40 on Wednesday evening, suspicious persons entered a kiosk in Larnaca and tried to steal various products.

The owner of the kiosk noticed them and called them to leave the stolen items and then one of the perpetrators grabbed him by the shirt, without injuring him.

Subsequently, the perpetrators stole various food and electronic cigarettes and left the scene.

Shortly before 04:30 in the morning this Saturday (05/04) a fire broke out in a car, which was parked outside the residence of its owner, in Oroklini.

The fire was extinguished by members of the Fire Department. The vehicle suffered extensive damage.

From the examinations carried out by the Police, evidence emerged that the fire in the vehicle was set maliciously.

The scene was put under guard, with the tests continuing in the morning.

The Larnaca TAE is investigating a case of arson.
