EAC informs the public about new incidents of sending misleading text messages (sms) to unsuspecting consumers. These messages falsely claim that the electricity bill remains unpaid and urge the recipient to follow an attached link and fill in their personal information.
It is emphatically clarified that these messages do not originate from EAC and constitute an attempted phishing.
The Agency urges the public to exercise special caution in emails that include links or file attachments, as these may redirect to misleading or malicious websites, regardless of what is initially displayed.
In addition, it is noted that any official reminder message from EAC regarding an unpaid electricity bill is limited solely to stating the customer number and the amount due, without any further requirement for data entry.
