SALE OF SUBSTITUTE DRUGS OR CANNABIS PRODUCTS

 Pafos Live 4 March 2025

Reactions are provoked by the ongoing campaign by the Anti-Narcotics Agency in shops selling substitute drugs or products made mainly from cannabis.

YKAN operations are also carried out very regularly in shops in Paphos from which packages containing cannabidiol substances are seized.

Store owners claim that these products are imported without any problem into Cyprus from EU countries and wonder why European legislation does not apply. The answer is given by a YKAN official who explained that national legislation prevails over European directives or recommendations that member states are not obliged to follow to the letter.

Cypriot law prohibits, explained, the sale and use of these products and where they are found, they are confiscated and cases are brought to justice.
