Following the progress of the cleaning of the Mavrokolymbos dam basin from the mud, engineers and technicians of the Water Development Department estimate that the week starting today will be able to give general guidelines for the appropriate methods of permanent solution to the problem.
In essence, however, the exact time of repair of the damage and reuse of the dam remains unknown, since the actions needed not only to repair the damage but also to ensure that no similar failure occurs in the future are still being sought.
Officials are trying to find a solution that will allow future maintenance of the dam and intervention in case of a problem. The engineers and technicians of the WDD make some evaluations in order to decide and conclude in the coming days on the method they will choose.
They point out that this has never happened before, since the damage that occurred in the Mavrokolymbtos dam is due to the failure and destruction of the ventilation duct and is not related to non-maintenance as some claim.
In addition, the works that will be carried out will ensure that WDD officers will be able to supervise the dam in order to prevent similar problems in the future and not to suffer again in the future such a large loss from the water balance of Pafos.
