The Municipality of Akamas, with specific proposals contained in a new memorandum sent to the competent state bodies, attempts to intervene catalytically to solve the problems that have arisen and which have resulted in the suspension of the works for the Akamas National Forest Park for 14 months.
This initiative was confirmed by the Mayor of Akamas, Marinos Lambrou, speaking to "F", pointing out that the concern of the Municipality of Akamas is huge and is exacerbated by the fact that soon the summer tourist season will begin, during which thousands of visitors will go to the peninsula daily through unsuitable roads and illegal accesses, without the slightest comfort and convenience.
The local community, he stresses, watches dumbfounded the various events that arise daily and which make the whole situation difficult. The destruction of the desalination plant and the recent loss of all water from the Mavrokolymbos dam, combined with the prolonged drought, raise fears of a complete water shortage in the coming months.
The Municipality of Akamas is deeply concerned, the memorandum also mentions the issue of fire protection of the National Forest Park due to the stagnation observed in the resumption of infrastructure works. Evaluations upon evaluations by officials, it is stressed, only complicate the situation further, which will have catastrophic consequences in the event of a fire.
We expect all those responsible, Marinos Lambrou stresses, to respond positively and instead of angrily targeting the Department of Forests for a plan that had been agreed and approved by all agencies and services, to sit at the table and immediately promote solutions to the problem.
The Municipality of Akamas, aware of the situation that has been created, emphasizes in the memorandum, proposes to undertake immediately with its own crews the implementation of the first phase of the road network under the supervision of the Department of Forests. In particular, the Municipality offers to grant all available means at its disposal, as well as its scientific and technical staff, for the immediate commencement and timely implementation of the basic provisions of the project, provided that the approval of the final designs as they have been formed so far will be granted.
The Mayor of Akamas asks the competent authorities to examine immediately and with due seriousness, as he stresses, the proposal of the municipal authority, in order to give a clear order for the start of works.
