Filenews
With the well-known case of large-scale usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas and a total turnover of hundreds of millions of euros, the Cyprus Police links the 40-year-old from Ukraine who was arrested on Thursday and is in custody.
According to what was reported yesterday by the TAE Headquarters at the Nicosia District Court, the suspect, Dennis Rohodin, allegedly advertised for sale properties in the occupied areas belonging to Greek Cypriot refugees.
In fact, Rohodin is linked by the police investigators to 73-year-old Simon Mistriel Aikut, alleged to be the big boss (this was reported by testimonies obtained and presented by the Police in Court) of the Afik Group.
More specifically, on the basis of the request for the detention of the TAE Headquarters, as presented yesterday to the Court, information was received about Rohodin who had previously advertised properties in the occupied areas and that among them were residential units that are in a project of the Afik Group.
In fact, from the investigative work so far and always based on what was reported about the 40-year-old yesterday in Court, testimonies show him advertising through a website a specific development of the said Group. This is the largest "project" of the Afik Group in Trikomo, which is called CAESAR RESORT. The Afik Group was presented as having usurped Greek Cypriot land and proceeded with the construction of 5,700 units, of which it sold more than 5,000.
In addition, the 40-year-old, based on testimony examined by the Police, advertised other residential units from projects in the occupied areas (Bahamas Homes, Hawaii Homes and Moonlight Villas).
Η GP Real Estate
The 40-year-old suspect allegedly advertised a plethora of other residential units through his website and the Social Media he appears to manage. This website is called "GP Real Estate" and is accompanied by the advertising slogan "Property in Northern Cyprus".
As we have found, the website in question is not accessible to the public, since the relevant link refers to a field for filling in a code.
However, in the Registrar of Companies there is a registered company in the name of the suspect. This is VH & DP GP REAL ESTATE LTD. Dennis Pohodin, according to the register, is presented as its director and secretary. In addition, the company has a registered address in Limassol.
Virtual Assets
However, according to what the Police presented to the Court in order to justify the reasonable suspicions against the suspect on the basis of which they are requesting his detention, the website falsely used a Cypriot telephone number.
As explained, it had a telephone number of the Republic of Cyprus, however, it is virtual and refers to the Whats App communication platform.
In addition, based on its examinations, the Police believe that the offices of the company in question are located in Kyrenia.
Partners
However, the case is not excluded to take on dimensions. The TAE Headquarters believes that the 40-year-old probably has other associates. According to what emerges from the investigative work in the context of the investigation of the case for the arrested, relevant information is being evaluated.
In Cyprus in 2024
The evidence investigated by the Police shows that the suspect first arrived in Cyprus in June 2024. The very next month, he obtained a temporary residence permit for employment in the Republic of Cyprus.
Initially, he appeared to work for a specific company, while later he stated that he was employed by another business entity.
Arrest and detention
The Nicosia District Court, examining yesterday's relevant request of the TAE Headquarters, issued a detention order against the 40-year-old suspect for a period of seven days, with the aim of facilitating police investigations in the context of the investigation of the case. The proceedings before the Court for the examination of the request for detention took place early yesterday morning.
The Police, as officially informed, proceeded on Thursday to the arrest of the 40-year-old, in the context of an investigation into a case of usurpation of Greek Cypriot property, located in the occupied areas of the Republic.
The 40-year-old suspect was arrested under a court warrant, at Larnaca airport, where he went the day before yesterday morning, to depart for another European country.
He is being investigated for (1) conspiracy to commit a felony, (2) conspiracy to commit fraud, and (3) fraudulent transactions in real estate belonging to another.
The turnover of the Afik Group
However, the Afik Group's developments in the occupied areas had a total turnover of hundreds of millions of euros. It should be recalled here that 74-year-old Simon Mistriel Aikut faces a total of 242 charges, which concern the usurpation of 60 pieces of land owned by a Greek Cypriot. The construction group AFIK GROUP, under whose umbrella the Aykut affiliated company Duminka is located, has begun to implement the "Caesar Project" project. The project included the "Caesar Blue", "Caesar Beach", "Caesar Breeze", "Caesar Bay", "Caesar Cliff" and "Caesar Resort" developments. All this on plots of land in Gasstria, Akanthos, Agios Ambrosios, Kyrenia and Trikomo. As "F" had revealed on June 9, 2024, these developments brought great profits for everyone involved.
We noted indicatively for the activities of the Afik Group that the largest "project" was in Trikomo and is called CAESAR RESORT & SPA. The Afik Group is reported to have proceeded with the construction of 5,700 units, of which it advertised that it sold more than 5,000. The other project, the one in Bogazi (Famagusta Caesar Beach), which was also implemented, included 220 tourist units. In fact, they were all sold.
Investigators of this Police unit have evidence that a house in Bogazi, Famagusta, was sold for the amount of 200,000 British pounds, i.e. about €238,000.
So, since the suspected usurpers advertise that they have sold more than 5,000 units in Trikomo (from €50,000 and above for the purchase of an apartment) and 220 in Bogazi, Famagusta, and that the Afik Group has implemented or tracked at least eight such projects with a total of more than 8,600 tourist units, using Greek Cypriot properties, then everyone can understand the size of the turnover.
According to what the company itself advertises on its website, its projects are the following:
◗ Caesar Resort & Spa (Trikomo) – A total of 5,700 units with over 5,000 sold
◗ Caesar Blue (Karpasia) – 1,600 units and 72 mansions
◗ Caesar Palm Jumeirah (Karpasia) – 516 units
◗ Blue Line Villas (Karpasia) – 92 units
◗ Caesar Cliff (Agios Ambrosios, Kyrenia) – Construction of 280 units is planned
◗ Caesar Breeze (Karpasia) – Construction of 200 units planned
◗ Caesar Beach (Bogazi, Famagusta) – 220 units – All sold
◗ Caesar Bay (Akanthos) – 50 credits
