Filenews 23 March 2025
The repayment period of the out-of-court fines, which are pending, began on January 8, 2025 and will last until March 31, 2025, the Police said in a statement, noting that after the expiration of this period, in case the owner of a vehicle does not take care to pay any out-of-court fine against him, for an infringement or violations that have / have been recorded by the Photolabeling System, a criminal file will be drawn up and he will be subject to criminal prosecution, without further delay.
The Police note that with regard to traffic violations that have been recorded by the Photolabeling System, a large number of out-of-court fines are pending (forms GL 276A) which have not been paid by the owners of the vehicles involved in these violations.
The cases concern the period between 1/1/2022 – 30/9/2024 and vehicle owners are urged to make sure to check, to determine whether their vehicle has been registered by the Photolabeling System and then settle any outstanding issues.
As mentioned, the procedure for identifying and paying the extrajudicial fines is as follows:
1. The interested party may visit the website of the contractor company (www.CyCameraSystem.com.cy) and register:
a) the registration number of his vehicle and
b) the number of the identity card or the alien registration number (ARC) or the number of the company/business, as the case may be.
He will then be able to ascertain a) whether any out-of-court fines are pending against him, b) the number of out-of-court fines pending and c) the serial number of each out-of-court fine.
If the interested party wishes to pay immediately, he can visit the website of the Police (www.police.gov.cy) and follow the relevant procedure.
For the details of the violation, people can call 80008009, between the hours of 08:00-17:00, in order to be given the code of the out-of-court fine and to gain access to the details of the violation, which they can locate on the website of the contractor company.
At the same time, the public can contact the same telephone number (80008009) if they encounter any problem in relation to the payment or registration of the data.
In the event that the owner of a vehicle finds that he was not driving the vehicle himself, at the time of recording the violation, the naming of the driver can be made directly, electronically, on the website in question, without the need to be involved in a bureaucratic process.
It should be noted that on the basis of the Traffic Offences (Use of Photolabeling Devices and Other Related Matters) Law (Law 55(I)2001), the owner is obliged to disclose, (in this case) through a relevant entry, the details of the person who was driving his vehicle at the time of recording the violation.
In case the registered owner fails to provide any information regarding the identity of the driver, he is guilty of an offence according to article 21 of the Motor Vehicles and Traffic Police Law, Law 86/72.
It is clarified that the repayment period of the out-of-court fines, which are pending, began on January 8, 2025 and will last until March 31, 2025. After this period, in case the owner of a vehicle fails to pay any out-of-court fine against him, for a violation or violations that have/have been recorded by the Photolabeling System, a criminal file will be formed and will be subject to criminal prosecution, without further delay.
The whole procedure and the possibility of payment of extrajudicial fines will not apply to cases for which cases have already been registered before the Court, it said.
Moreover, it is noted that the out-of-court regulation, among other things, aims to avoid criminal prosecution and save valuable time for the Police and the Courts.
