MINISTER OF HEALTH - IMMEDIATE CARE UNITS - PILOT IN 2025

 Filenews 22 February 2025

Discussions are underway for the creation of Immediate Medical Care Units, which will serve cases requiring immediate but not urgent care, according to the Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos.

He stressed that the aim of the new units is to decongest the TAEP. The new system is expected to be piloted in 2025.

Mr. Damianos, the Ministry of Health, is awaiting a relevant proposal from the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY), noting that a proposal has also been put before it by the Medical Services.

According to the Minister of Health, an effort is being made to pilot the program of Immediate Medical Care Units within the year, to see if it can be adopted before next winter and before the large number of hospitalizations begins, due to seasonal infections.

In addition, he noted that an effort will then be made to adopt the program by other hospitals in order to reduce the waiting time in the Emergency Departments.

Nine hundred incidents in the private sector

In relation to the arrangements made by the Ministry of Health in mid-December, with the aim of decongesting the Emergency Departments of state hospitals, due to the outbreak of infections, Mr. Damianos said that about 900 cases have been sent within seven weeks to private hospitals, which are integrated into the General Health System (GHS), since these regulations were implemented.

As he explained, if these cases were not made, they would be taken to public hospitals, so they could not respond, since they remain full until today, due to infections.
