The water development department is proceeding with the procedures for finding a contractor who will undertake the installation and operation of the mobile desalination plant in Potima. The site has already been selected and is located near the mouth of the Mavrokolymbos river.
The bidding process is underway, which ends on March 3. Based on the plans two weeks later the contract will be awarded. It will provide for operation of the plant for a period of four to seven months from the day of award. The water development department offers through the contract financial incentives to the contractor in case of operation of the plant in a shorter period of time.
The duration of the contract for the mobile desalination plant will be five years. The plant will produce ten thousand cubic meters of water daily, as many as the needs of the tourist and residential areas of Pegeia and Kissonerga, especially during the tourist season. However, this water will now be saved by the refineries of the Asprocremos and Kannaviou dams, whose occupancy is now at very low levels.
