Tips for safe driving on wet roads
Driving in the wet can lead to serious accidents if proper measures are not taken.
Here are helpful tips that can help drivers move safely when the road is wet:
We reduce speed
Wet roads reduce tyre grip, increasing braking distance. Driving slower, we have a longer reaction time in case of emergency.
We check the condition of our tyres
The quality and condition of the tyres play a decisive role. We check the depth of the tread. We also make sure that the tyres are properly inflated according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Keep distance from vehicles in front
The safety distance must be doubled or even tripled on wet roads. This reduces the risk of a collision in the event of sudden braking of the vehicle in front.
Avoid abrupt movements
Sudden acceleration, sudden braking or abrupt manoeuvres can cause loss of traction. Try to drive smoothly and anticipate changes in the road or traffic in time.
Beware of puddles and spots with stagnant water
Puddles full of water can damage the vehicle or lead to loss of control. Also, stagnant water increases the risk of aquaplaning. Water on the road can also conceal potholes.
We activate the high-beam headlights
The lights help us not only to see better but also to become more visible to other drivers.
We check the wipers
We make sure that the wipers are in good condition so that visibility is not affected
