Senior citizens in the Paphos district village of Steni are to participate in a European Union Erasmus project aimed at empowering elderly people to fight against climate change.
The contract to allow their involvement was signed on Thursday night, with village mukhtar Elias Lampides saying the project, which is entitled “Seniors live green and participate in the fight against climate change (Green Life)”, is set to last 18 months.
He added that the project will “empower senior citizens in both Cyprus and Bulgaria to become active participants in efforts towards environmental sustainability”.
On the project itself, he told the Cyprus News Agency that it will entail “the creation of a practical guide specifically designed for seniors, the organisation of 10 interactive events which promote green practices and social inclusion, as well as intergenerational cooperation to address climate change”.
“By providing tools and resources to senior care centres to integrate green practices into their daily life, the project aspires to inspire sustained environmental action and strengthen community bonds,” he said.
He added, “this important project highlights the power of senior citizens as key contributors to a sustainable future”.
