Average rainfall across Cyprus rose to 12% of January’s normal levels, up from 1% recorded earlier this week, following widespread precipitation on Wednesday, KitasWeather reported.
The heaviest rainfall, according to KitasWeather stations, was recorded in Kissonerga at 32.0mm, while Cape Greco received the lowest at 0.9mm. The average rainfall across the island measured 10.6mm during the period from 22 January at midnight to 23 January at 08:00.
Notable measurements from Kitasweather stations included Kato Paphos at 19.8mm, Polis Chrysochous at 18.3mm, and Omodos at 15.2mm.
Dam water inflow reached 205,000 cubic metres in the past 24 hours, bringing total inflow since October to 11.933 million cubic metres. Current dam capacity stands at 26.1%, significantly lower than last year’s 46.0%.
Officials warn of potential water supply challenges, particularly in Paphos, following a desalination plant fire and damage to Mavrokolympos dam. Additional rainfall is forecast for the weekend.
