Hellenic Bank on Friday issued a warning to its customers to remain vigilant against phishing scams, following a resurgence of fraudulent activities targeting its clients.
The bank said that fraudsters have been impersonating Hellenic Bank through emails and text messages, acting as if they are part of its customer service department.
These messages typically urge recipients to update their personal details through a provided link, which directs them to a counterfeit webpage mimicking the official login page of Hellenic Bank’s online banking platform.
“This is a scam,” the bank stated, urging customers to exercise caution in their online activities.
“We will never ask our customers to update their personal details or disclose sensitive information via a link,” the bank said in its statement.
The bank also advised customers to remain cautious and alert, as fraudsters often employ psychological tactics to coerce victims into hurried decisions.
“These fraudulent messages frequently use fear as a tool, threatening account closures or service restrictions to pressure individuals into compliance,” the bank explained.
Hellenic Bank also pointed out that phishing messages are often poorly constructed, with grammatical or syntactical errors resulting from automated translations.
“Always read the content carefully,” the bank advised. “These errors are a clear red flag.”
The announcement added that customers are encouraged to scrutinise the sender’s information and hover over any provided links without clicking, to ensure the URL is secure and genuinely associated with the bank.
“Check the sender, as the name will not be related to Hellenic Bank,” the statement mentioned.
“We are intensifying our efforts to safeguard our customers against such fraudulent activities,” the bank added.
