FORECAST FOR THE COMING DAYS

 Filenews 23 January 2025

After a few days of sunshine, the winter scene returned to Cyprus. Since the morning there has been rain in various areas, while it has been snowing in Troodos for a while.

According to Kitasweather, snowfall is observed in the Troodos ski resort but without snow for the time being, as the snow on the ground is what was left over from the December snowfall.

As mentioned, if snow cover is observed, it will be light from the specific clouds that are currently affecting the Troodos area. At Hotel Jubilee, so far, rain alternates with sleet.

Detailed prognosis

Weak low pressure affects the area.

Tonight, the weather will continue to be mostly cloudy with localised showers and a possible isolated thunderstorm, particularly in coastal areas. On the highest peaks of Troodos, snow or sleet may fall. The winds will blow mainly northeast to southeast, weak and transient to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will generally remain a little turbulent and locally in the north until turbulent. The temperature will drop around 7 degrees in the interior, around 10 degrees on the coast and around 1 degree in the higher mountains, where frost will form locally.

Tomorrow, the weather will be mostly cloudy, while local rains are expected from time to time, without excluding the occurrence of an isolated thunderstorm. On the highest peaks of Troodos, snow or sleet is expected. The winds will blow mainly northeast to southeast and in the west gradually southwest to northwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will generally be a little turbulent and in the north locally to turbulent. The temperature will rise around 16 degrees in the interior and coasts and around 6 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tomorrow evening, the weather will be mostly cloudy, while in coastal areas, isolated rain may occur. On the highest peaks of Troodos, snow or sleet may fall. The winds will blow mainly northeast to southeast, weak and transient in the east to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will generally be a bit turbulent.

On Friday, locally increased clouds will be observed intermittently, which are expected to give isolated rains, in the morning hours mainly in the west and north and after noon, mainly in the mountains. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of Troodos.

On Saturday, the weather will be mostly cloudy, with localised rain expected, particularly in the mountains and the western half. In the evening, localised showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms are expected, particularly in the west and north. On Sunday, the weather will remain mostly cloudy with localized rain but also isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the western half of the island and the mountains. From the afternoon onwards, the weather will noticeably improve. The wind field will gradually strengthen, especially in the north, east and later on the south coast.

The temperature until Sunday is not expected to change significantly, to continue to fluctuate close to the average climatic values of the season.
