With the room of the Limassol Permanent Assize Court filled with relatives of the accused, the latter heard the prison sentence imposed by the Court in relation to the large quantity of drugs found in his possession.

In addition to the 34 kilos of cannabis, the defendant also possessed weapons, which, as filenews wrote in a previous report, he had hidden in a bedroom cabinet, in an apartment belonging to a relative.

The Assize Court imposed a 15-year prison sentence on the charge of possession with intent to supply other persons with a quantity of 34 kilograms. It also imposed several lesser sentences on the other charges, which are current. The defendant was found guilty, according to the judgment of the Assize Court, after his own admission to the charges of possession with intent to supply to other persons of class B drugs, possession and use of class A drugs, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, as well as the offence of money laundering.

The Court, in its judgment, referred to punishable conduct by the defendant and that he was in possession of three types of drugs. In total, he was found in possession of 34 kilograms of cannabis, 2 firearms (pistols), 500 cigarettes containing a type of drugs falling under class A hard drugs, as well as a quantity of cocaine of 0.13 grams. He was also in possession of 2,014 bullets and the sum of €4,000 was found.

The defendant is a person charged with two previous convictions for similar drug possession offences. According to the facts of the case, the defendant admitted that he received from a third person the sum of €100 for every kilogram of drugs he had in his custody. He had been operating as a warehouseman since April 2024. As the Assize Court pointed out, the defendant's role was important in guarding the drugs and in their trafficking chain. The sentencing took into account the immediate admission of the accused and his apology, as well as his cooperation with the Police.

The accused, although he admitted everything, did not name the third person who supplied him with the drugs in question, due to the fact that he feared for his relatives, since before his arrest, unknown persons had placed an explosive device, in particular a grenade, at the entrance of his mother's house. It is recalled that the YKAN reached the 36-year-old after information was given on July 18 that he possesses, uses and traffics narcotics, while he is in possession of quantities that he conceals in his apartment in Mesa Geitonia.

On the 25th of the same month, a court search warrant was issued for the defendant's apartment, while new information was received that the 36-year-old was in possession of small quantities of cannabis which he concealed in his home. This information was given by a person who had a private perception, since he comes from the 36-year-old's very close environment and recently became aware of drugs after visiting him. According to the facts of the case, on July 27, members of the YKAN (Limassol District Unit) stopped a car driven by the 36-year-old on a Limassol road for inspection.

During the ensuing search, the 36-year-old was found in possession of two nylon packages containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of six grams, while two more nylon packages with cannabis, with a total gross weight of two kilograms, and the large amount of money were found and seized inside the vehicle. Subsequently, a search was carried out at an apartment in Limassol, the keys of which had been found in the possession of the 36-year-old. During the investigation, it was found that the one-bedroom door was closed and locked.

At the time, the 36-year-old declared ignorance of this, and a search inside the apartment found hidden over a curtain rod in the living room a key, which was taken as evidence and found to be that of the bedroom door. After entering the room, searches followed, where 6 travel suitcases were found, in the presence of the suspect, inside which were 38 kilos of cannabis. A small quantity of cocaine, with a gross weight of half a gram, and a quantity of cannabis with a gross weight of two grams were also seized.

Also, in a cabinet inside the apartment, two pistols, in usable condition, as well as two cardboard boxes, containing a total of 2,014 rounds of 9mm calibre, were found and confiscated.

The Nicosia District Court imposed an immediate three-month prison sentence for sexual harassment offences on Tuesday (21/1) on the 32-year-old police officer, who was previously found guilty.

The police officer was accused of sexually harassing a colleague during 2018 and 2019 while training at the Cyprus Police Academy.

In today's judgment, the Court imposed sentences of three months imprisonment on the offence of indecent assault on each charge and a sentence of one month imprisonment on the charge of common assault, both of which are concurrent. After this development, the 32-year-old was taken by the Court to the prison cell.

It should be noted that disciplinary proceedings against the constable are also in progress, while it is expected with interest who will be the acting of the leadership of the Police, since members of the Force serving at the Police Academy also testified in the case.

The defendant was facing charges of indecent assault against a woman, sexual harassment in violation of articles 2, 4, 12 (1) and 30 (1) of the Equal Treatment of Men and Women in Employment and Vocational Training Law 205(I)/2002 and two counts of common assault.

The case went to a hearing with the defendant not admitting to any of the four charges he faced. During the hearing, 11 prosecution witnesses, all police officers, were called and testified.

At the conclusion of the case, the Court ruled that the case against the defendant had been proven, which called for an apology with the latter choosing the right to remain silent.

As Filenews reported on November 14, 2024, the Nicosia District Court ruled that the Prosecution, represented by public prosecutor Elena Constantinou, had managed to prove the defendant's guilt beyond any reasonable doubt in all charges faced by the 32-year-old.

It is noted that at the hearing a sergeant major was called to testify, to whom the complainant had spoken about the sexual harassment she suffered at the hands of the accused. The witness, however, when called to testify, told the court that he did not remember exactly when the conversation with the victim took place, while denying that the latter had told him that the 32-year-old defendant had made an indecent assault on her during a break.

The 39-year-old Cameroonian changed that in his testimony about Potamia's case.

While at first he claimed to have taken the 24-year-old Pakistani to the Acropolis alive, in a written statement he states that he was dead immediately after he was shot and transferred and left in an open plot on the Acropolis.

This is what the examiner of the case, Nicosia ICF Lieutenant Yiannos Giannakou, stated today before the Nicosia District Court in his oath, requesting the detention of an Iranian arrested yesterday in Limassol as part of the migrant smuggling ring.

The court was told that the 27-year-old wanted man from Pakistan is the alleged mastermind of the ring.

The process to detain the suspect is ongoing, with the Iranian's lawyer objecting to his detention.

He was holding a knife and under the influence of drunkenness caused disturbance to his neighbours, a 38-year-old foreigner, who was eventually handcuffed and detained. The incident, according to information provided by Filenews, took place today at dawn (21/1) in the area of Agios Ioannis in Limassol, where the 38-year-old drunk Pole initially tore with a knife the tyres of a vehicle of a neighbour.

After the above incident, terrified residents called the Police and members of the Agios Ioannis Police Station immediately arrived at the scene. The 38-year-old, however, continued to cause concern and apparently did not realize what he was doing from drunkenness.

In possession of the knife, he tried to enter a neighbour's residence, since he thought it was his own, but damaged the main entrance door and broke glass, resulting in injuries to his hands, in the presence of the police.

The members of the Force, after immobilizing him and arresting him for flagrant offenses, then transferred him to the Hospital, where he received medical attention.

The 38-year-old was then taken to the Police Station where he was arrested and detained. Today he is expected to be charged in writing with the offences of stabbing, resting, drunkenness and malicious damage and will be released pending a summons to court.
