PAFOS - SILVER AWARD FOR THE QUALITY OF THE COAST. RANKED IN THE TOP 100 GREENEST HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS OF THE WORLD 2024-2026
Pafos region as a holiday destination is famous all over the world for its green nature and its crystal clear beaches.
From 2013 to 2023, the destination has been awarded for its Coast Quality (QUALITY COAST) and was included in the TOP destinations as the cleanest, greenest and most sustainable holiday destinations in harmony with nature.
Following this distinction and through a demanding re-evaluation process by international independent tourism sustainability experts, Pafos was recognized as a Holiday destination that has worked methodically to make a difference and has incorporated sustainability practices and actions into its strategic priorities.
Just a few days ago after a long re-evaluation process, it has achieved a silver medal for the quality of its coast and secured its status and the destination's place in the list of the 100 Greenest Destinations in the World 2024-2026.
With the Quality Coast Award and a place in the Greenest Destinations, Pafos is becoming even more famous for its unparalleled beauty, for its picturesque beaches and the rich and rare vegetation dominated especially by Akamas. Basic criteria for the selection of the areas are the cleanliness of the waters, the biodiversity of the areas, their environment, their socio-economic situation, their cultural heritage, the lack of air pollution, noise levels, quality of visitors information, etc.
This award is fully consistent with the Vision of the destination which is for the province of Pafos to become ''A premium holiday destination which will offer the visitor a wide range of experiences and will contribute to the sustainability of the area while respecting the environment and cultural heritage''.
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism(PRBT) initiator of this idea, is a step closer to the goal to win a gold and platinum award in the coming years and to be included in the few destinations (worldwide) that have received certification recognized by the GSTC(Global Sustainable Tourism Council).
Taking this opportunity, PRBT warmly thanks the Municipal authorities of Pafos, Yeroskipou (Eastern Pafos ), Pegeia (Akamas) and Polis Chrysochous, the community councils that contributed and especially those of Chloraka, Kissonerga, Neo Chorio, Argaka, Pomos, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, PafoscHoteliers Association and the C.S.T.I for their contribution and assures the continuation of the implementation of important actions in the direction of improving the product and the tourist experience.
