CRIME ROUND UP

Detention orders of 7 and 4 days were issued by the District Court of Paphos against a 29-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, respectively, in order to facilitate investigations for an investigated case concerning shop burglaries and thefts.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations Michalis Nikolaou on 25.11.24 around 2:45 in the morning while members of the Paphos Police Department were conducting a patrol in the parking lot of a central supermarket in Paphos they noticed a suspicious person sitting in a vehicle who appeared to be a 29-year-old woman. A man was also present in the area, in whose possession were found burglary tools, a sum of €102, and other property for which he did not give satisfactory explanations.

An amount of money, other property and burglary tools were found in the 29-year-old's vehicle after a relevant check. Subsequently, the two persons were arrested and taken into custody for self-inflicted crimes.

During the examinations carried out by the Police, the two persons were linked by testimony regarding a restaurant burglary committed on the night of November 19 and 20, during which the sum of €1,630 and two tablets worth €300 were stolen, as well as a cafe burglary which was committed during the night of November 22-23 and a sum of money was stolen of €250 and a tablet worth €250.

Also, their testimony states that they are connected to the burglary of a cafe in the Chlorakas area which was committed on the night of November 24th and 25th and an amount of €250 was stolen. The two persons were also connected with an attempted burglary of another cafe which was committed between the dates of November 24 and 25.  

The two persons were re-arrested with judicial arrest warrants and yesterday Monday morning they were presented to the Court which issued detention orders for 7 days for the 29-year-old and 4 days for the 29-year-old.

The examinations for the case continue by the TAE of Paphos.

Cyprus Police

547 traffic offenses were identified and reported on the road network of the Limassol district, during the weekly campaign of the Limassol Traffic Police, for the prevention of road collisions, which was carried out between 18 and 24 November 2024. Specifically, 26 reports were made for driving under the influence of alcohol, 23 for exceeding the speed limit, 46 for using a mobile phone while driving and 61 for not using a seat belt or protective helmet. The majority of the reports concerned driving without a safety certificate (80), while another 65 reports were made for driving a motor vehicle without a driving license. During the campaign, 79 cars and ten large-capacity motorcycles were seized by the Traffic Police for various offenses. The weekly campaign of the Limassol Traffic Police, to prevent road collisions, is part of the ongoing effort of the Cyprus Police, to consolidate a correct road culture in our country. Police checks throughout the road network are daily and continuous and aim to reduce fatal and serious road collisions.

Four persons were arrested in the morning, as part of a coordinated operation by the ICF of Nicosia, in cooperation with the Nicosia OPE and the Police Dogs Branch, for the execution of judicial search warrants in six houses.

During the operation, members of the Police proceeded to arrest four persons for offenses such as illegal possession of drugs and property, illegal possession of killed wild birds, public insult and interference in a police investigation, as well as for unpaid fine warrants.

Specifically, during a search of the 42-year-old man's home, an amount of €32,500 was located and confiscated, for which he did not give sufficient explanations as to how it came into his possession. He was therefore arrested for a flagrant offence and detained. A large quantity of packages containing dead wild birds was also found at the home of the 42-year-old arrested man, which were confiscated. The case is being investigated by the Pera Chorio Police Station, in cooperation with the Game Service.

In a search of the 37-year-old man's home, a quantity of cannabis was found, resulting in the owner being arrested for a flagrant offense, which is being investigated by the YKAN. The 37-year-old was also arrested for unpaid fine warrants.

A 40-year-old man was also arrested for the offenses that concern, among others, the offenses of public insult, threatening, as well as the offense of interfering with a police investigation. The 40-year-old man in question was at a 38-year-old man's house, which was searched by members of the police, without finding anything suspicious.

Finally, as part of the investigations, a 35-year-old man was arrested for unpaid fine warrants. The 35-year-old's house was searched under a court warrant, but nothing was found.
