IMMEDIATE DECISIONS ARE NEEDED FOR ELECTRICITY, GAS AND RES

The 12th Energy Symposium, which was held with great success at the Royal Hall in Nicosia, on "The big decisions on energy", reached three important conclusions on the energy developments of Cyprus.

The three conclusions are as follows:

1. It is imperative to take all necessary decisions on natural gas quickly and to implement all the necessary projects, in order to exploit our EEZ and import natural gas from abroad.

2. It is imperative to proceed with all the necessary actions for the electricity interconnection between Cyprus – Greece – Israel and the liberalisation of the electricity market.

3. It is imperative that all issues concerning the RES sector move forward.

All speakers pointed out that there have been serious delays to date in Cyprus' energy issues and now it is necessary to speed up procedures, decisions and actions. 

At the 12th Energy Symposium, 27 speeches were given by politicians, foreign ambassadors, organized groups, energy companies, academics and businessmen. Among the greetings stand out the speech of the President of the Republic Mr. N. Christodoulides, the President of the Parliament Mrs. Annita Demetriou, the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Mr. G. Papanastasiou, the Minister of Energy of Greece Mr. Theodoros Skylakakis, the President and CEO, Symbol of IPTO Mr. Manos Manousakis, the President of the CCCI Mr. St. Stavrou, by the Mayor of Nicosia Mr. Char. Prountzou and Hellenic Bank.

Particularly important was the speech of the Ambassador of Israel Mr. Anolik Oren

In the 1st Electricity Session, the interventions of the President of EAC Mr. G. Petrou, the Executive Director of the Energy Transmission System Manager Mr. St. Stavrinos, the President of the Electricity Market Association Mr. G. Chrysochos and the former Minister of Justice Mr. Ionas Nikolaou.

At the 2nd Session on the hydrocarbon market, important speeches were given by VTTV's General Manager Mr. Thanos Patrikis, the CEO & Founder EC Natural Hydrocarbons Co Ltd Mr. Charles Ellina and the Petroleum Geologist and Energy Economist Dr. Konstantinou Nikolaou.

In the 3rd Section on Energy Markets, important interventions were made by the Chief Operating Officer of the Athens Energy Exchange (EnEx Clear), Mr. Chr. Nicolaides and the Deputy General Manager of CSE Mr. Nikos Trypatsas.

In the 4th Session on RES, interesting interventions were made by the President of the Association of RES Companies (SEAPEK) Mr. Fanos Karantonis, by the President of the Cyprus Hydrogen Association (SYK) Mr. Makis Ketonis, by the Director of Ideopsis Ltd Mrs. Anthi Charalambous and the President of the Technical Committee of the Cyprus Organization for Standardization Mrs. Eleni Topouzi.

The Symposium was attended on behalf of IENE, by its President and Executive Director Mr. Kostis Stambolis, the Energy Engineer, Secretary General of Energy Efficiency Mr. Costas Theophylaktos and the Editorial Director of the energia.gr Mr. Adam Adamopoulos.

The Symposium was attended by more than 300 participants, who expressed their absolute satisfaction with the level of the organization, its speeches and conclusions.
