TRAFFIC AT KONIA INTERCHANGE A BIG HEADACHE

Filenews 25 October 2024 - by Dora Christodoulou

The Konia interchange, at the beginning of the Paphos-Limassol motorway, has recently emerged as a major problem regarding the escalation of the traffic problem for the local authorities.

While in previous years the most important problem that the authorities had to deal with concerned the commercial and historical center under redevelopment, as well as the area of the schools at the northern exit of the city, recently the situation at the junction of Konia shows an unprecedented deterioration almost throughout the 12 hours of each day.

The situation at the site is characterized as suffocating by Pafos standards, creating queues of immobilized or moving at a snail's pace, both on the side of the Hospital and Eleftheriou Venizelou Avenue towards the motorway or towards the Northern Bypass, as well as on the side of the entrance to Tassos Papadopoulos and Eleftherios Venizelos Avenues. This is a point that until the completion of the large-scale renovation works in Pafos had not been so intensely occupied by the authorities and the public of Pafos and is now characterized as very dangerous for traffic traffic, since the flow of vehicles is done in a way that makes visible the possibility of road collisions on a permanent basis.

The situation on a daily basis, excluding Sundays, causes embarrassment to competent authorities and nerve testing for motorists. As a result of the rapidly deteriorating traffic situation in the area, members of the Police are at the scene daily trying to ease the situation, but the delays and queues recorded continue to be unusual for Pafos data.

The junction next to the Paphos-Limassol motorway is added to a large part of the city's road network that has now been congested to an alarming degree of traffic, as is the case on the silo road from Mesogi to Paphos Hospital, on Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue from Viofos to EAC and on the avenues leading to the shopping centre.
