GREEN LIGHT FROM THE MINISTERIAL TO THE BILL ON THE REMUNERATION OF SERVICES OUTSIDE OF GHS

 Filenews 9 October 2024

The Council of Ministers approved an amending bill of the State Health Services Organization (SHSO), which enables the Organization to determine through internal regulations the rights and fees for medical, nursing or other services provided outside the GHS.

In statements after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Health Michalis Damianos said that the approval of the amending bill will allow the Organization to manage more flexibly the costs of the services provided and ensure its sustainability.

He further explained that the SHSO will be able to invoice non-GHS services that are not GHS beneficiaries on the right basis with regard to the cost of these services and not lower as was done until now.

"Today's decision," Mr. Damianos said, "indicates our commitment to continue upgrading the health system in our country. Upgrading the capabilities of the SHSO is important and this bill is a step in the right direction."

Asked by a journalist to refer to examples, the Minister of Health explained that "someone who is in our country and visits public hospitals, without being a beneficiary of the system, and will receive a medical, nursing or other act including the TAEP, will be able to be charged by the SHSO for the fair amount for this service and not something much lower. which is done today"
