An area between the Municipalities of Paphos and Eastern Paphos was turned into a garbage dump due to the illegal disposal of waste, with Mayors Phaedonas Phaedonas and Nikos Palios, who performed an autopsy on the site, declaring that the law will be implemented and restoration will be done.
TheMr. Phaidonos and Mr. Palios made a site visit on Thursday to the site located in the Konia region despite the heavy rain.
Also, the area around the Agios Theodorou High School has turned into a vast garbage dump, with piles of garbage, useless items, damaged tires, old and unsuitable electrical items, and rubbish.
The head of the Health Service in the Municipality of Paphos, Dr. Christos Christou, told KYPE that although the area around the Agios Theodoros Gymnasium is cleaned at regular intervals, however, due to its proximity to the industrial area and the rich vegetation, it has turned into an immense garbage dump . He also stated that an investigation is underway by the Municipality's services in order to identify who is polluting the area.
He also added that the possibility of installing cameras in the area is being considered.
The Mayor of Paphos Phaidonas Phaidonos stated that "chaos prevails between the Municipality of Paphos and the Municipality of East Paphos", adding that "some do not respect the environment or the laws". Finally, he pointed out that in a joint visit with the Mayor of Eastern Paphos, Nikos Palios, the decision was clear, "complete legality and restoration".
In the meantime, in his statements to KYPE, the Mayor of East Paphos, Nikos Palios, stated that cleanliness is a culture and must be adopted by the citizens of this place, so that images of untidiness do not prevail. He also referred to the consolidation of environmental consciousness.
There are also complaints about uncontrolled dumping of garbage in the area of the Industrial area of Tremithousa. According to a complaint by professionals who are active in the area, the situation has reached an impasse due to the amount of waste, garbage and trash, noting that they have therefore sent a relevant letter to the Community Council of Tremithousa.
They also point out that piles of rubbish are hotbeds of contamination, and countless scraps and scrap metal increase the risk of accidents especially when they block vehicular and pedestrian traffic, as they point out. Finally, they ask the Community Authority to immediately take the necessary actions for the complete removal of waste from the streets, as well as to take measures to prevent this situation from happening again.
