The fire that broke out yesterday in Pissouri was brought under full control shortly after midnight, according to the president of the community, Panagiotis Mavroudis.
Speaking to the Morning Itinerary, he said that the fire broke out in an inaccessible area and the strong winds that were blowing made the work of firefighting more difficult. However, he noted, the immediate mobilization of the Department of Forests and the Fire Service prevented the worst.
The fire, according to the community leader, burned trees and wild vegetation. Mr. Mavroudis expressed the assessment that the fire was set maliciously.

The Police arrested two persons aged 24 yesterday, following an assessment of information, in the context of investigating cases of burglary and theft, committed between the dates 09/08/2024-13/09/2024, in the Famagusta district.
In subsequent searches of their residences, various pieces of gold and the amount of 1,900 euros were found, for which the two suspects did not give sufficient explanations for their possession and were also arrested for the offense of illegal possession of property. A small amount of methamphetamine was also found in the possession of one.
Under questioning, the two 24-year-olds allegedly admitted six counts of residential burglary and theft, as well as building burglary and theft.

The Nicosia District Court issued an eight-day detention order for a 29-year-old man who was arrested on Thursday for possession of about 23kg of cannabis.
The 29-year-old was driving a vehicle in an area of Nicosia, which was stopped by police on Thursday afternoon for inspection. According to a police statement, a subsequent search inside the vehicle found 20 nylon packages closed airtight, containing a quantity of cannabis weighing approximately 22 kg and 838 grams, resulting in the 29-year-old being arrested for a flagrant offence.
It is noted that during the arrest of the 29-year-old's vehicle, it collided with a police service vehicle, resulting in both vehicles suffering material damage.
It is added that the 29-year-old was transferred as a precaution to Nicosia General Hospital, where he received medical examinations and was subsequently discharged.
On Friday, he was brought before the Nicosia District Court, where a detention order was issued for eight days.

A coordinated operation by members of the Larnaca Crime Prevention Unit, in cooperation with inspectors of the Municipality of Larnaka, took place last night in the city of Larnaka to combat the phenomenon of noise pollution.
During the operation, four premises were inspected in Ermou Square in Larnaka and two out-of-court complaints were made for the offence of broadcasting sound without a license.
