YELLOW WEATHER WARNING

A yellow warning for extreme maximum temperature has been issued by the Department of Meteorology with effect from 11 this morning until 5 pm.

The maximum temperature is expected to rise to around 41 degrees Celsius in the interior and 32 degrees in the higher mountains.

Seasonal low pressure and hot air mass affect the area.

Today, the weather will be mostly clear, but in the coastal areas, both in the morning and in the afternoon, there will be increased low cloud at times. In the mountains, during the midday hours and after, clouds that will develop, it is not excluded that they will give isolated rain. The winds will initially blow northeast to southeast and locally southwest, weak, 3 Beaufort, becoming progressively by noon mainly southwest to northwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and transient on the south coast until strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will generally be calm to a little turbulent, however temporarily in the afternoon in the south and southwest, it will be a little turbulent. The temperature will rise around 41 degrees in the interior, around 33 on the west and southwest coasts, around 36 on the rest of the coasts and around 32 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will remain mostly clear, although locally on the coast there will be increased low cloud, especially in the west and north. Later and during the dawn hours, sparse fog or fog may form locally, particularly in areas in the interior and southeast. The winds will initially blow southwest to northwest, weak, 3 Beaufort, to later become descending, of the same intensity. The sea will be calm until a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 24 degrees on the west and southwest coasts, around 25 degrees in the interior and rest of the coasts and around 21 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Wednesday, the weather in most of the island will be mostly clear with temporarily increased clouds, but in the mountains, clouds that will develop during the midday hours and after, are expected to give isolated rains, without excluding the occurrence of an isolated short storm.

On Thursday (Dormition of the Virgin Mary) the weather in most areas of the island will be mostly clear with temporarily increased local clouds. In the mountains, however, during the midday hours and after, clouds that will develop, it is not excluded that they will give isolated rain. On Friday, the weather will be mostly clear with temporarily increased local clouds.

The temperature until Friday is not expected to change significantly, to continue to fluctuate above the average climatic values of the season.
