LIMASSOL - BUS AND CYCLE LANE CONSTRUCTION GO OUT TO TENDER

Filenews 13 August 2024 - by Ioanna Mantipia

Water has entered the groove regarding the construction of bus lanes on Nikos and Despina Pattichi Avenue and the coastal avenue up to Agios Tychonas, as well as the construction of bicycle lanes and two park and ride stations in the city of Limassol.

These are important projects that will bring significant benefits to the city while alleviating the major problem, which is none other than traffic.

The Department of Public Works proceeded last week with the announcement of the two phases for the implementation of the priority projects of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Limassol.

The works that extend to the areas of Phase A and B, i.e. the coastal front and south of the Troodos roundabout, concern the reconstruction of the surface layer of the road surface and the creation of bus lanes and bus stop infrastructure.

They also concern the construction of bicycle lanes and cycling infrastructure, the creation of roadside parking spaces, the construction and reconstruction of sidewalks, the construction of light-controlled crossings for pedestrians and cyclists, type Pelican and "Zebra", installation of new and/or upgrading of existing traffic lights, horizontal and vertical signage, as well as accompanying infrastructure works.

According to the notice, the deadline for receipt of tenders or requests for participation is until 20/09/2024 when they will be opened for evaluation.

The works for Phase A, which concerns the section of the coastal road and cycle lanes, have an estimated value of €8,000,000, while for Phase B the amount amounts to €2,350,000.

These are projects that have been characterized as green and digital and were included for funding by the Recovery and Resilience Fund as well as by the Cohesion Fund "THALEIA 2021-2027".

The budget is €15 million. It is recalled that in her statements in a recent report of "F", the senior executive engineer of the Department of Public Works and Head of the Sustainable Mobility Sector, Evi Anagiotou, pointed out that there is no doubt about the implementation of the projects.

As far as the construction of the bus lanes on the coastal road is concerned, they will start from the park and ride in Agios Tychonas and will extend approximately to the area of the Castle.

As far as Nikou and Despina Pattichi Avenue is concerned, the bus lanes will start from both directions (ascent and descent), next to the Polemidia roundabout, at the point where a park and ride will be constructed, while it will end at the junction of the traffic lights of Makarios Avenue, well-known lights of the former "Fairways".
