As the emblem of the new Municipality of Akamas was chosen the figure of the hero of Greek Mythology "Akamas". Akamas was the son of Theseus and Phaedra and had taken part in the Trojan War.
In fact, he was one of the Greeks who had hidden inside the Trojan Horse and succeeded in capturing Constantinople. He then went to Cyprus where he founded a colony in the area that bears his name and which today is the official name of the newly established Municipality.
