DOCTORS STRIKE AT GENERAL HOSPITALS SCHEDULED FOR 2 & 3 JULY SUSPENDED FOR TIME BEING

After almost four round-the-scenes consultations and after a four-hour meeting in the office of Health Minister Michalis Damianos, doctors and SHSO reached an agreement and public hospitals to be released, for the time being, from the 48-hour strike scheduled for tomorrow and the day after.

According to information, an intervention during the meeting was also made by the President.

Following the intervention of the President of the Republic, the two sides agreed that:

1. They enter the dialogue for the conclusion of an agreement regarding the financial incentives that will be granted to doctors in the years 2024-2026, with the participation of the Minister of Health as mediator and the PIS as an observer. The deadline for the agreement has been set for October 31, 2024.
2. The proposal of the Board of Directors of the SHSO dated June 25, 2024 is withdrawn.
3. An independent firm will be appointed to study the 2023 data and determine the amount of financial incentives doctors will receive for that year. The result presented by the independent firm will be binding on the parties involved.

As the Minister of Health said in his statements, "the agreement was reached after the invitation of the President of the Republic to the two sides for dialogue"
