CHRISTMAS VILLAGES 2024 - includes explanation of some of selection criteria

After the evaluation of the applications, "Christmas Villages 2024 – 2025" will operate in Agros, Deryneia, Kalopanayiotis, Kiti, Kyperounda, Laiki Geitonia (Nicosia Municipality), Lefkara and Fikardou, for the period from November 22, 2024 to January 6, 2025, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism announced. Not a single euro will be given to municipalities and communities in the Pafos district that had expressed interest.

As mentioned, following the great success and positive impressions left by the initiative of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for the organization of "Christmas Villages" in Municipalities and Communities, in the last three years, the Deputy Ministry announced a Subsidy Scheme for Community Councils and Mountain / Border / Remote Municipalities, who would like to undertake the organization of Christmas Villages, for the upcoming festive season and specifically for the period from 22 November 2024 until January 6, 2025.

It is noted that this is a separate initiative included in the efforts of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism to upgrade the tourism product through specific quality labels (Labels), which has now become an institution, to stimulate winter tourism.

According to the announcement, after evaluating the applications submitted, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism announces that for this year "Christmas Villages" will operate in Agros, Deryneia, Kalopanayiotis, Kiti, Kyperounda, Laiki Geitonia (Nicosia Municipality), Lefkara and Fikardou.

It is reported that the selected destinations will be festively decorated and will include wooden houses, with local products and handicrafts for sale, experiential workshops of handicrafts and wine gastronomy, activities in nature, such as walking on nature trails and cycling, guided tours of the villages and other surprises.

It is noted that the whole plan will include restaurants / accommodations, located in the wider area of the "Christmas Villages", which were selected, which will offer a festive menu and / or Cypriot breakfast, thus providing the opportunity to many neighboring communities to benefit from the event as well.

It is added that the ultimate goal of the Deputy Ministry is for the "Christmas Villages", with their local character, to be differentiated from those of the cities of Cyprus and abroad and to be enriched every year to become a pole of attraction for Cypriots and foreigners.
