SAVE WATER

SAVE WATER

Paphos Water Board have reduced the quantity of water they send to Tala.  This has resulted in areas of the village struggling to get any water whatsoever.

Water is undoubtedly the supreme commodity offered by nature! We owe it to preserve it! Saving water concerns all of us!

The K. S TALAS recommends saving measures!

IN THE KITCHEN:
- When washing fruit, vegetables and dishes do not leave the tap running. Just use a basin. Water can then be used for irrigation/watering plants in the garden
- Use the dishwasher and washing machine only when they are full and use an economy programme. Remember that the average washing program in the washing machine consumes about 100-150 litres of water. Don't waste water with half-full machine!
- Check leaks in taps, pipes and in general all leaks in plumbing installations. Repair immediately as leaks waste water 24/7 creating major wastage.
- When washing your hands do not leave the water running while soaping. Turn on the tap as soon as you are ready to rinse them.

IN THE BATHROOM:
- Do not fill up the tub. Shower without leaving the water running when soaping.
- When you brush your teeth or shave, do not leave the tap running.
- Don't leave the water running until it's hot - catch water in a bowl to use to water plants

OUTSIDE THE HOUSE:
- Water the garden only when it is necessary. Established gardens do not need watering. Use 'run-off' water to water those plants that need it, early morning or late afternoon so there is maximum benefit to the plant.
- Use a bucket and mop to wash your terraces, not a hose.
- Use a bucket and sponge to wash the car - not a hose.
- Don't wash pavements/drives with the hose. Sweep and pour one or two buckets of water only.

GENERAL ADVICE:
- Use water-saving shower heads and taps. They are inexpensive and easy to install.
- Use a coloured disc in the restroom tank and if it leaks into the toilet basin without flushing, you have a leak! If you have a pump on the roof, if this is running frequently, this can also be a sign of a leak or problem with the pump.
- Put old water bottles filled with sand, pebbles or soil in your cistern - this reduces the amount of water used to flush.
- Regularly check the indication of your water meter as you can prevent significant water loss if you spot excessive usage early. Keep a log of your meter readings so you spot any change in habit.
- Make sure you close the taps properly. Ten drops of water per minute equals two tons of water per year. Every drop counts.
- We take initiative and call the responsible authorities immediately for any leakage and loss of water on the roads or emanating from someone else's property. We don't expect anyone else to do it. The Council would rather have a dozen calls reporting the same leak than none at all.
