PAFOS TOURISM BOARD IN A EUROPEAN PROGRAMME FOR THE 'TWIN' GREEN AND DIGITAL TRANSITION

The Pafos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Agency hosted yesterday, Monday, June 17, the partners of the SMARTIES for SMEs project, for the implementation of planned actions aimed at enhancing competitiveness and building the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises in the tourism sector.

Local tourism industry stakeholders took part in a very important "Focus Group" Focus Group for the SMARTIES for SMEs project, curated by professors from the University of Zagreb. The discussion included issues of tourism strategy in the Pafos region, the role played by tourism stakeholders and good practices that can be applied by small and medium-sized tourism enterprises to develop and enhance the sustainability of the destination.

This was followed by a 'Capacity Building Workshop' with the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Paphos tourism industry. At the same time, they were informed about the "Twin" Green and Digital transitions and how they can enhance innovation, resilience, sustainability as well as improve the quality of service provision in the sector in which they operate.

More than 25 small and medium-sized enterprises of the Pafos tourism industry participated in the Capacity Building Workshop.

The project is 100% funded by the European Union. Through the programme, 15 SMEs are expected to absorb €375,000 through applications and specific selection procedures for the implementation of actions towards the green and digital transitions

Applications from prospective SMEs will be accepted from November 2024. Announcements and meetings with potential beneficiaries (SMEs) will follow and the plan, selection methodology and award criteria will be presented by the Pafos Region Tourism Development & Promotion Company. The amount corresponding to each of the 15 small and medium-sized enterprises selected is up to €25,000.
