Filenews 25 June 2024 - by Dora Christodoulou
From July they went to August, then September 2023 and now in mid-2024 we are still waiting for the restart of the procedures for the implementation of the major project. The reason for the developments around the issue of the construction of a marina in Paphos that has been evolving into an unresolved issue for the province, for two decades.
With one postponement following another and with one legal issue arising after another, in recent months the institutions of Pafos have shown an obvious change of course on the issue: They have essentially stopped all communication and representations to those responsible for the state machinery, from the ministers involved to the competent departments and directorates, considering that they no longer have anything to expect from this side.
Although they do not point it out publicly, local authorities have placed all their hopes for moving the big issue solely on the President of the Republic. Nikos Christodoulides, we recall, was clear during his recent tour of Pegeia and the inauguration of four municipal authority projects that on his own presidential; The issue will be forwarded for resolution and he will lay the foundation stone.
This public and categorical position of the President seems to be the assurance in which more than any other the representatives of the economic and business community of Pafos invest, considering that any contacts made at the level of officials are now pointless.
We remind you that after the announcement of the tender for the recruitment of consultants for the preparation of the tender documents for Pafos Marina, at the end of last year, hopes for speeding up the procedures were quickly dashed, since an issue immediately arose with the documents that were sent to the Legal Service for an opinion and it was found that some corrections needed to be made. These corrections have been made, the documents have been sent back to the Legal Service and no one is now in a position to say where we are and what we expect.
