The circumstances of a road collision, which occurred yesterday in Paphos and resulted in the serious injury of a 25-year-old motorcyclist, are being investigated by the Police. To facilitate interrogations, a 42-year-old car driver was arrested and detained.

The road collision happened around 6 p.m. yesterday, on Makarios Avenue, in Chloraka, when a car driven by a 42-year-old Georgian, under circumstances that are being investigated, collided with a motorcycle driven by a 25-year-old from Syria.

As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old was injured. He was transferred to Paphos General Hospital, where he was detained for treatment, after it was found that he suffered a fractured jaw and right leg, while he also has an intra-abdominal pneumothorax haemorrhage.

After the collision, the 42-year-old allegedly fled the scene and was stopped by a civilian nearby.

Members of the Police went to the scene, during which the 42-year-old underwent a preliminary alcohol test, with a positive indication. This was followed by a final alcohol test, with a lower reading of 104μg%, instead of 9μg%. He also tested positive for drug tests.

The 42-year-old was arrested under a court warrant and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.

The Pafos Police arrested two people aged 14 and 17 yesterday to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of car theft and subsequent arson in Paphos.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on Saturday, at around 05:00 in the morning, a 61-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus reported to the Police shortly before his car worth €600, which was parked in a field of his residence on Adamantiou Korai Street in Paphos.

A few minutes later, information was given to the police that a car was burning in a deserted area near the sea in the area of Melania.

Members of the Paphos Police went to the area, where it was found that the car that was burning was the one that had been reported earlier as stolen. The fire was extinguished but the car was completely destroyed.

Mr. Nicolaou said that the examinations carried out by the Police and Fire Brigade found that the fire was set maliciously with the use of flammable material.

He also added that as part of the investigation of the case, testimony emerged against a 14-year-old, against whom an arrest warrant was issued, and then against a 17-year-old. The two minors were arrested on Sunday and taken into custody.

Paphos Police have arrested a 51-year-old man to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of burglary and theft of four houses in the Ha-Potami area in March 2022.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, in relation to four residential burglary cases committed on March 15, 2022 in the area of Ha – Potami, from which various property of a total value of €1,700 was stolen during the investigation of the case, yesterday Saturday around 20:00, a 51-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus was arrested with a court warrant.

Members of the Aliens and Immigration Service carried out yesterday a coordinated control operation in order to combat illegal work and identify illegally staying foreigners in Cyprus, with particular emphasis on the walled area of Nicosia.

During the operation in Nicosia, 11 foreigners were arrested for illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, while another twelve were arrested for cases involving illegal employment and employment.

At the same time, four foreigners were arrested in Limassol and one in Paphos for illegal stay.
