FIRE IN THE PROVINCE OF PAPHOS - AN AGRICULTURAL WAREHOUSE WITH TRACTORS, PLANTATINOS AND VINES BURNED

A battle with the flames took place throughout the night in the area between the communities of Kelokedari-Trachypedoula, said the President of the Community Council of Kelokedari Marios Zachariadis.

In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Zachariadis said that the fire started opposite the Cultural Center of Kelokedari, at a distance of about 100 meters from the road network and then spread towards Trachypedoula.

He also said that the intervention of the Fire Service was timely, while residents of the area also contributed to the firefighting project. On the scene he continued, three fire trucks arrived which created fire safety lanes. The fire also threatened residences while an agricultural warehouse with tractors and other tools, some plantations and vines burned.

In Kelokedara, said Mr. Zachariadis, there was no need to evacuate the village, however relatives of the residents arrived in the community to transport their own persons to the city of Paphos for safety.

He said that during the fire, a small number of elderly people living on the right of the road were separated from their relatives.

He concluded that it is sad to see centuries-old trees and properties being destroyed, he concluded.

Besides, in his post on Platform X, WHO Spokesperson Andreas Kettis stated that the fire was detected by a patrol of the Thira Service which was patrolling the area for the purposes of operational controls.

The starting point of the fire was located approximately 50 meters from a rural road and in an area where there is zero human activity, he added.
