A 16-month prison sentence was imposed on Wednesday by the Paphos District Court on a 34-year-old man for the crime of breaking into a building.
According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, the crime was committed in March.
The 34 year old's co-accused, aged 44, remains in custody. He does not admit and the trial of his case was set for 26 June.

The 44-year-old man who is accused of very serious arson incidents in the Nicosia district over a period of six months will be detained until his case is heard by the Nicosia Permanent Assize Court.
The Greek Cypriot defendant was initially released with conditions by the Nicosia District Court, where the case was registered with a view to referring him to the three-member judiciary.
However, the Assize Court overturned the data last week. When the case was brought before him last Thursday, and after a request from the representative of the prosecution, he decided judging by the seriousness of the offenses that the 44-year-old is being held as an undertrial until the trial of the case.
It should be noted that following the investigative work of the Nicosia Crime Detection Department, a case was registered against the 44-year-old for a large number of arsons that occurred between November 2023 and April 2024. The offences for which this person is accused relate to cases such as arson at a vehicle repair shop in Pallouriotissa that resulted in the complete destruction of 12 cars and the damage of five others.
The 44-year-old was arrested on April 16 on the following eight counts:
>> 5/1/2023 – Arson of a 43-year-old man's car in Nicosia. The fire spread and damaged two other vehicles parked at the scene.
>> 20/11/2023 – Arson of a 55-year-old man's car in Aglantzia.
>> 26/11/2023 – Arson of a 68-year-old man's car in Strovolos.
>> 10/1/2024 – Arson of a car owned by a 47-year-old woman in Engomi.
>> 10/2/2024 – Arson in a café restaurant of a 41-year-old man in the industrial area of Aglantzia
>> 24/3/2024 – Arson of a 50-year-old car in Paliometocho.
>> 13/4/2024 – Arson of a restaurant owned by a 30-year-old and a 26-year-old man in Tseri.
>> 16/4/2024 – Arson in a workshop in Pallouriotissa resulting in the complete destruction of 12 cars and the damage of five others.

Police arrested an 18-year-old Limassol resident yesterday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of motorcycle theft and theft.
Specifically, last night members of the Limassol OPE conducted a search, pursuant to a court warrant, at the home of the 18-year-old. During the investigation, a motorcycle was located and collected, which was found to have been reported to the Police, as stolen since March 20, 2024.
As a result, the 18-year-old was arrested for the offence of theft and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.
The Germasogeia Police Station is investigating the case.

As part of the cooperation between the Police and the Customs Authorities, in order to identify persons importing drugs into the Republic of Cyprus, he was located yesterday around 7.45pm. and stopped for inspection, a 31-year-old woman, at Larnaka Airport.
In the 31-year-old's possession, 5879 pills and nine paper packages containing white powder, believed to be controlled drugs, were found and seized.
The 31-year-old was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.
The YKAN (Larnaka District Unit) is investigating the case.

The mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannetou, was indicted in a direct trial before the Famagusta Permanent Assize Court, who on Sunday won re-election.
The mayor is accused in a case of securing €765,000 from European funds 12 years ago, related to the upgrading of a hotel of which he was manager and shareholder at the time in question.
The defendants in the case are himself, as well as a company facing the same charges.
The charges relate to extortion of money by false representations, forgery, as well as money laundering.
The case was set for July 12 before the Assize Court where the defendants will be asked whether or not they plead guilty.
The mayor of Ayia Napa was released on parole. Specifically, a guarantee of €100,000 will be signed, while the same amount must be signed by a creditworthy guarantor.
It is noted that the Ministry of Interior intends to seek an opinion from the Attorney General in order to interpret the new law that will come into force on July 1 on whether or not Mr. Zannetou should be suspended.
