Yesterday morning a case was registered against him and he was served with the voluminous indictment. Previously, the investigation team of the Headquarters Crime Detection Department, as part of its investigative work, had also obtained a cadastre document revealing the value of Greek Cypriot properties on which the 73-year-old's construction company allegedly made developments, without any legality. There is evidence that he illegally exploited land worth more than 40 million.

In addition, police investigators have obtained evidence from Israeli authorities following a request for assistance.

The referral to the Assize Court was set for 9 September next. The Nicosia District Court reserved for today its decision in relation to the request of the prosecution, represented by Antigone Michael, to keep the accused under trial.

The 73-year-old's defence lawyers, Rikkos Mappouridis and Maria Neophytou, objected to the request, putting forward their own positions before the court. Among other things, they said that the defendant does not own the companies allegedly involved in the case and that he transferred the shares to one of his two sons through trusts.

As regards bank cards of these companies found in his possession, it was alleged that the 73-year-old received them from his son in order to cover expenses that would arise from his trip to Israel via Larnaka airport.

In addition, the 73-year-old's defence lawyers presented a certificate from a person from the Jewish community in Larnaca, which allegedly guaranteed the defendant's stay in Cyprus.

Greek Cypriots testified against Aykut after testifying that they did not consent to the development of their properties. Two people from a European country bought a tourist residence in Gastria, Famagusta and paid €235,000. They testified to the police that they were not given a title deed.
