BLUE FLAG FOR POMOS BEACH

Filenews 1 June 2024 - by Dora Christodoulou

An effort that began in 2021 reached its goal of recognizing and awarding Cape Pomos beach with a Blue Flag.

The blue flag was received today by the President of the Community Council of Pomos, Andreas Dionysiou and the Director of the Pafos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company, Nasos Hadjigeorgiou, at an event held in Zygi by the National Blue Flag judge Cymepa.

The award of this beach is another seal of the successful cooperation between the private sector, local authorities and the state for the implementation of actions of local and supralocal importance. The goals could not have been achieved without the excellent and productive cooperation with the Community of Pomos and especially with the President of the C.C. Andreas Dionysiou, who with his efficiency and determination contributed greatly all these years.

In the last four years, the Pafos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company has invested more than €65,000 in this beach. Through a holistic beach use plan, he radically upgraded the beach and transformed it into a model beach.

It replaced the white plastic sunbeds with wooden ones of high strength and aesthetics, the worn umbrellas with wicker ones of excellent quality, installed environmentally friendly beach bells, bought and installed garbage collection kits and recycling bins, constructed changing rooms, installed more than 30 meters access corridors for disabled people, offered a floating wheelchair to upgrade accessibility, repaired the lifeguard tower, expanded the institution of quality beach in the area and prepared together with the community the application for the Blue Flag award.

For Pomos beach there are in the works a plan for the sprucing of the surrounding area, public sanitary facilities, licensing of a refreshment bar and more.

This distinction of the community of Pomos is the new addition to the quiver of the Pafos district and raises the number of blue flags to 18 for 2024, ETAP says, thanking the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for its financial support to actions for the benefit of the local community, entrepreneurs and the destination in general.
