THEY LINK CYPRUS TO THE TERRORIST ATTACK IN RUSSIA

Filenews 7 April 2024 - by Fakis Makrides

Russian news platforms, as well as websites specializing in security and financial crime, put Cyprus in the frame of investigations into the deadly terrorist attack on Moscow's international business center, specifically Crocus City Hall.

As "F" found, a number of publications relay the same information (they do not cite the source) in relation to our island. In particular, it is alleged that after investigations by the Russian authorities, in which FSB intelligence agents allegedly participated, it was found that a sum of money ended up in the form of cryptocurrencies in the electronic wallet related to a Russian businessman and then part of the money was found in the hands of the perpetrators of the terrorist attack. It is added that the person in question controls companies registered in Cyprus.

This information, which is relayed by a number of online platforms, includes details, however, it was not published in any of the well-known Russian media.

In one of the characteristic publications, reference is made to the role of a person with the nickname "Yulik London", which -as noted- refers to a specific Russian businessman. The latter was prosecuted years ago by the Russian Federation in a case of possible embezzlement of more than EUR 7.5 million. EUR and then allegedly fled to the UK. He is on the wanted list of persons of the Russian Federation.

Of course, it is emphasized that the businessman in question may have nothing to do with terrorist financing. One of the reports indicatively states: "The cash was delivered to Moscow for him, transferred in cryptocurrencies to the designated wallet and then part of this money ended up with the terrorists. It is obvious that the ... It may have nothing to do with terrorist financing." Elsewhere, it is stated that in the past the businessman in question "transferred property of a factory that he maintained to companies controlled by him and registered in Cyprus".

The above findings emerged from the search conducted by Russian authorities on Friday, March 29, at the premises of a cryptocurrency exchange in Moscow.

It should be noted that as reported last Wednesday by the TASS news agency, the General Prosecutor's Office of the vast country had sent a request for assistance to the US, Germany, France and Cyprus regarding the terrorist incidents against Russia. On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said "we will monitor the reaction of our own law enforcement agencies and the reaction abroad."

As is known, at least 144 people died in the terrorist attack.
