CAMPAIGN ON CONSTRUCTION WASTE

 Pafos Live 12 March 2024

The Department of Environment informs the public that it continues its campaign of inspections to check compliance with construction and demolition waste management obligations, in the context of which it carries out inspections and audits at construction sites on a nationwide basis.

It is emphasized that according to the Waste (Management of Waste from Construction and Demolition) Regulations of 2023 (ΚΔΠ.112/20123), producers of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW)/contractors who do not maintain an Individual CDW Management System are obliged to comply with a series of obligations, such as participating in a collective CDW management system and ensuring that the waste they produce is disposed of in licensed CDW management facilities, with which they maintain a written cooperation agreement for their proper management. They should also, before commencing the execution of works, inform the collective CDW management system and the Director of the Department of Environment about the commencement of works and prepare and maintain on site an updated CDW Management Plan which has been audited and bears the stamp of the collective CDW management system in which they participate.

In case of non-compliance, the inspectors of the Department take the measures provided by law, which include an out-of-court settlement of up to €4,000 and/or criminal prosecution.
