 Pafos Press 29 January 2024

Around the end of February, the completion of the new Haemodialysis Unit of the Paphos General Hospital, which is being built next to the hospital's chapel and is an extension of the state hospital, is expected, according to Dr. Laki Giukka, Director of the Nephrology Clinic of the Paphos Hospital.

The Director of the Nephrology Clinic of the General Hospital of Paphos reported to KYPE that at the present stage the relevant checks are being carried out, but the installation procedures of the new medical equipment have also begun and it is expected to be put into operation around the end of February.

Dr. Yukkas stated that the construction of the new Haemodialysis Unit of the General Hospital of Paphos is based on European specifications and has the ability to develop up to 27 dialysis stations depending on the needs of the Paphos District. Besides, he said, from the normal Haemodialysis Unit, the new Unit will have a separate Haemodialysis Unit for HIV-positive patients (Hepatitis B carriers) the so-called yellow unit which today, as he said, they do not have, and patients from Paphos go through the week in Nicosia and undergo haemodialysis.

In addition, he noted that care was taken to build a separate Unit for infectious diseases such as for example Covid – 19. The building, as he mentioned, will house the external nephrology clinics, will have a Short Hospitalization Unit, will have a ward for minor operations and there will also be a ward for peritoneal dialysis which is another type of treatment to restore kidney function.

The needs of the Paphos District with this Unit are guaranteed for at least 15 years based on the planning that was done, he added.
