THE HOUTHI REBELS ALSO AFFECT CRUISES IN CYPRUS

 Pafos Live 29 January 2024

Problems for nautical tourism, in addition to other problems in the world economy, are caused by the attacks of the Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.

The impact directly affects Cyprus as well, since the owner of a cruise ship that was due to call at ports in Cyprus announced the cancellation of its trips for the months of March and April.

According to tour guide Eugene Neophytou, at least five thousand passengers would arrive in Cyprus on three itineraries of the cruise ship "Aida" in the first months of the new tourist season. This cruise ship operates every year cruises in the Mediterranean, starting from the United Arab Emirates.

Tourism stakeholders fear that if the unsettled situation in the Red Sea continues, there will be cancellations for the main tourist season.

The owner cites safety issues for the cancellation of routes in March and April and will review the situation in the near future.
