The Meteorological Service has issued an orange warning for severe weather phenomena.

The warning comes into effect from 10pm on Monday (29/01), until 10pm on Wednesday (31/01). Rains and locally strong storms are expected to affect mainly the northern half and eastern areas of the island from time to time. In a storm, hail is also possible.

Detailed weather forecast:

Today the weather will be intermittently mostly cloudy and initially isolated rains or storms are expected, mainly on the coasts, but gradually local rains and isolated storms will occur. Snowfall will occur in the higher mountains and possibly locally in the lower mountains. Winds will be mainly northeast to southeast, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to a little rough in the west and south and a little rough in the rest. The temperature will rise to around 12 degrees in the interior, around 16 on the coasts and around 4 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost will prevail locally.

Tonight the weather will be intermittently mostly cloudy with local rains, while there will also be isolated storms mainly along the coasts. Locally, mainly on the south-eastern coasts, the effects may temporarily be intense. Snowfall is expected in the higher mountains and possibly locally in the lower mountains. Winds will be mainly northwest to northeast and locally to easterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and transient locally on the northern coast to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough in the west and south and a little rough to rough on the rest of the coast, but later in the north it will become rough. The temperature will drop to around 5 degrees in the interior, around 8 on the coasts and around minus 2 degrees in the higher mountains. Frost is expected to form in the mountains and semi-mountains, while frost is also likely to form in some leeward areas of the interior.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the weather will be generally rainy at times, with local storms and snow in the mountains. The phenomena may locally be prolonged or intense. Isolated rain, isolated storms and snow in the mountains are expected on Thursday, but from late afternoon the weather improves noticeably.

The temperature until Wednesday is not expected to change appreciably, to fluctuate below the average climatic values, while on Thursday it will rise slightly.
