The Police proceeded to the arrest of a 52-year-old woman, in the context of investigating cases of fraud and extortion of a sum of money exceeding 430 thousand euros, according to the complaints submitted in recent days to the ICF of Limassol. The 52-year-old allegedly posed as a real estate agent and extorted money from four people in Limassol for buying and selling pieces of land, as well as renting apartments.
According to the evidence under investigation, the 52-year-old suspect allegedly deceived and extorted from an 81-year-old man an amount of money of €416,500 between March, 2022 and December, under various false pretexts, after convincing him to invest money in the purchase and sale of two fields.
The suspect, according to the complaint submitted last Tuesday, January 02, to the ICF of Limassol, the 81-year-old and his 52-year-old relative, had initially deceived both of them at the same time, extorting the amount of €11,983, after posing as a real estate agent, telling them that she would help them sell their own piece of land.
This was followed on January 4, by two more separate complaints to the ICF of Limassol, from men aged 31 and 54, from whom the 52-year-old suspect allegedly extorted a total amount of money of €3,100, for renting two apartments in Limassol, after convincing them that she herself is a real estate agent.
The 31-year-old suspect allegedly extorted €1,600 last August for renting an apartment. The suspect convinced the 31-year-old by showing him photos of an apartment in Limassol.
From the 54-year-old, the suspect allegedly extorted in September, 2023, a sum of money of €1,500, for renting an apartment, indicating to him externally the apartment building in which the apartment is located, but without leading him inside the apartment. According to the 54-year-old, due to the fact that the 52-year-old was delaying his move to the apartment, he demanded the return of his money and in December, he received a transfer of €500 to his bank account from an unknown bank account.
A court warrant was issued for the 52-year-old. She was located and arrested yesterday morning by members of the Limassol OPE, and then yesterday, she was brought before the Limassol District Court, which approved a request by the Police and issued a seven-day detention order for her to investigate fraud cases.

The 44-year-old accused driver who killed the four victims of the fatal traffic accident that occurred 30 minutes after the New Year at a light-controlled intersection on the Limassol-Platres road will be brought to the Central Prison.
In today's judgment, the Court stated there can be no doubt that the offences facing the defendant are serious, in particular the offence of murder. He also noted that from the witness material and specifically from the reports-testimonies of the experts and the representation of the fatal where visibility is calculated, as well as the video showing that the accused passed in red, he is likely to be convicted.
Regarding his ties with the Republic of Cyprus, he said that they are not so strong. He also pointed out that his detention time for 22 days was not excessive. The accused was brought to a direct trial before the Permanent Assize Court of Limassol on 1 February for the offences of murder, causing death by reckless, reckless or dangerous act or behaviour in violation of Article 210 of the Penal Code and violation of red and yellow lights.
It is recalled that during yesterday's proceedings the Police requested the detention of the accused until the trial to ensure his presence. On behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Public Prosecutor, Yiannos Argyrou, invoked the risk of absconding from justice, noting that the accused is likely to abscond, explaining that he is a foreign person who resides in Cyprus with another foreign person without having children or other special close ties with the Republic of Cyprus, stressing that "there is nothing to keep him in Cyprus until he is tried".
He also noted that it is perhaps one of the most serious traffic cases that have occurred in our country, where four members of the same family have lost their lives, saying verbatim that "a whole family was wiped out". In conclusion, he pointed out that the accused faces charges punishable by life imprisonment and no way, amount or other measure to ensure his presence can be of such a nature as his detention until the date of his trial.

The two 32-year-old men from Cameroon who were wanted for the murder of Aitsa Alav at the exchange office maintained by her husband in walled Nicosia on December 22, 2023, were placed under three-day detention today by the "district court" in occupied Nicosia.
Shortly after the murder, the two suspects fled to the free areas. At that time, two other people were arrested for helping them escape. The two were found in Pyla on January 8. The two Cameroonians allegedly admitted to committing the crime, but maintained that they did not intend to murder the woman and when they left the office, she was alive.
Alav died of asphyxiation after the two men had tied her hands and feet and put a piece of cloth in her mouth and she could not breathe.
The website "Haber Kibris" posted a video of a citizen, Hussein Demirel, who allegedly handed over the two men from Cameroon from "southern Cyprus" – as he calls the free areas of the Republic – to the "authorities" of the pseudo-state and the "police". In the video, men can be heard speaking Greek.
Congratulations to the "police" for the arrest expressed in a post the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar.

The Supreme Court, under its appellate jurisdiction, unanimously rejected a civil appeal by a Russian and ordered that he remain in custody until his extradition to Russia proceeds.
As stated in the judgment, following a hearing, the Larnaca District Court on 19/5/2023 "ordered the extradition of the Appellant" and at the same time ordered that he remain in detention until extradited to the Russian Federation in order to stand trial for the crime of Theft from the Federal Budget of the Russian Federation, knowingly providing false and misleading information when recovering compensation in relation to material damage resulted from the well-known accident at Chernobyl.
The Appellant, acting pursuant to Section 10(1) of the Extradition of Fugitives Law of 1970, Law 97/1970, registered with the Supreme Court the Application No. 63/2023 for the issuance of a Habeas Corpus Warrant, challenging the lawfulness of his detention.
The Court of First Instance, i.e. the Supreme Court in the exercise of its primary jurisdiction under Article 155.4 of the Constitution, after considering the complaints of the Appellant, declared them unrealistic and rejected them.
In this Appeal, the Appellant challenges the validity of the judgment of first instance by promoting, in total, three grounds of appeal. As stated in the judgment, the conclusion of the Court of First Instance to reject the Appellant's position of non-compliance with the provisions of Article 12 of 95/1970 was correct and therefore dismisses the first ground of appeal.
It also states that the conclusion of the Court of First Instance that the appellant did not establish a real risk of adverse treatment or violation of human rights in the event of his extradition rendered irrelevant the fact that any assurances from the Russian Federation that he would not be treated unfavourably in the trial of his case could not be considered satisfactory.
"In the present case, the Appellant, who had the burden of proving that there were reasonable grounds to believe that he would be subjected to adverse treatment or violation of his human right or that he would not receive a fair trial, as the Court of First Instance rightly pointed out, did not put forward any allegation demonstrating any risk of any of his rights being violated if he surrendered to his home country," he said.
It did not allege, it added, "that his rendition to the Russian Federation poses a real risk of adverse treatment or violation of human rights."
His reliance on the fact that the assurances given by the Russian Federation are not sufficient 'to eliminate the increased risk he would run if he were extradited to treatment contrary to the ECHR and even without being able to benefit from effective judicial protection' undoubtedly fell short of his actual risk in the present case'.
