The "diamond of Troodos", the legendary Hotel Berengaria, which is an important reference point for the place and especially for tourism in Cyprus, enters a new era.
The restoration works of the hotel, which will be named "Berengaria Luxury Boutique Hotel", continue at an intensive pace, with the static reinforcement and upgrade of the building completed.
The regeneration of the listed hotel y, which will provide all modern comforts, will become a reality thanks to the BBFGroup and Thanos Hotels & Resorts, which takes over the operation of the hotel. The rescue works with the static reinforcement and upgrade have been completed, while in early 2024 the renovation works in the interiors and the construction of apartments and villas in the surrounding area are expected to proceed. The completion of the ambitious project is expected in 2026 and is an investment of €35 million.
Yesterday, journalists had the opportunity to enter its premises, to be guided and to be informed about the stage of maintenance and renovation works of the hotel. At a press conference held in a special area, the strategic management partnership of the new hotel by Thanos Hotels & Resorts, which undertakes the operation of the hotel, was also announced.
Work is currently underway to repair the stone walls of the building and the horizontal concrete slabs. This was preceded by the phase of immediate interventions, in which the areas that had collapsed were rebuilt and the dangerous cracks were repaired. In the first phase, the same type of stones were used, as well as the same technique so that the new walls did not differ from the existing ones. To repair the serious cracks, the stones were rearranged, while in the area of the cracks injections with plaster were made to fill in the gaps.
The second phase of repairs to the stone walls is in progress and concerns the removal of the existing jointing on all surfaces of the building, internal and external, and the dredging of the joints with high pressure water blasting. It is, as mentioned, a modern method which is used on the walls of the building by placing tubes to make filler injections, to repair cracks.
The next stage concerns the replacement of the roof and the further strengthening of the building's structure in order to upgrade it against seismic weapons. This will be followed by the excavation and construction of the spa area and the new swimming pool. Then, the installation of the new frames on the doors and windows will take place, as required by the Town Planning. While at the last stage, the appropriate configuration of the interior spaces of the hotel will be made, always according to the requirements of the Town Planning.
Berengaria Hotel will consist of 30 rooms, of which 6 will be suites, 12 connected rooms and the remaining 12 standard rooms, 14 apartments, a state-of-the-art spa, as well as 13 townhouses and 9 independent villas in the surrounding area. The architectural design was undertaken by Marios Economides and Maria Akkelidou Architects LLC.
