CLEANING CAMPAIGN OF THE ST NICHOLAS COMPLEX

 Filenews 13 September 2023

A large cleaning campaign that began on Tuesday continues on Wednesday inside and outside the apartment complex in Chloraka Saint Nicholas, according to the president of the Chlorakas Council Nikolas Liasidis.

Mr. Liasidis said that the building will be guarded until it is clear in court who will be the beneficiary of the apartments.

The cleanliness, he added, aims at removing all garbage within the complex, removing it with vehicles, cleaning the surrounding areas with greenery, as well as cleaning and sprucing the streets.

Mr. Liasidis also said that the community authority will proceed with the spraying of the area for mosquito removal.

The President of the Community of Chlorakas said that in the complex one crew has been charged with collecting garbage, another with the removal of materials, and another crew has been mobilized with cleaning around the surrounding area.

He added that some walls had been painted externally and a house had been set up for security guards stationed in the area.

Meanwhile, as of Tuesday, five private security guards are monitoring the evacuated apartment building complex in Chloraka on a 24-hour basis, while at the same time the whole area will be covered by patrols of the Paphos Police Authority, according to the spokesman of the Paphos Police Authority and head of the Pafos ICF, Michalis Nicolaou.

According to Mr. Nikolaou, the guards were placed in the area by the community council of Chlorakas and a private loan management company.

Besides, the Department of Public Works has started last Friday the sealing of the entrances of apartment buildings with the installation of building grates, which is expected to be completed by Friday.

Nicolaou said that although the police have carried out the instructions given regarding the evacuation of the apartment complex, they are carrying out extensive checks on a daily basis to rule out the possibility of any person settling there again.

Nicolaou said that coordinated control and patrol operations continue by the Police on a 24-hour basis, with the aim of tackling crime and consolidating security in the wider area.
