A HEPATOLOGY CLINIC WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN CYPRUS

Filenews 22 September 2023 - by Marilena Panayi

"The intentions of neither the Government nor me personally have changed," Health Minister Popi Kanari told philenews a while ago and clarified her position after the strong protests on the part of patients, which arose during the meeting of the parliamentary committee on Health when the executive director of the SHSO Kypros Stavrides, spoke about simple come and go of specialized doctors from London to Cyprus and not about creating specialised hepatology clinic at Nicosia General Hospital.

"The intention of the Ministry and me personally has not changed. We are proceeding as we had agreed with the procedures for the creation of a hepatology clinic for transplanted liver patients at Nicosia Hospital. I am going to London on 5 October to sign agreements with two hospitals. In fact, as Cyprus/SHSO we already maintain an agreement with one hospital, which is in force and concerns the children at Makarios hospital.

Our goal with this agreement is to ensure that our own doctors and other staff through scholarships receive the training they need. We will also ask them to help us set up our own structure and at the same time, with this agreement, we will be able to refer very specialized, difficult and urgent cases to them. For my part, instructions have been given to the SHSO for the announcement of a position and the recruitment of a specialized doctor in Cyprus. Therefore, for the Ministry and the Minister the intention remains the same," he concluded.
