The fire brigade sees arson behind the fire that broke out yesterday afternoon near the community of Akourdalia in Paphos.
The fire broke out in three different outbreaks in an inaccessible area. Speaking on state radio , fire brigade spokesman Andreas Kettis said that from the indications alone it was clear that it was arson. He pointed out that in order to deal with the fire that was moving menacingly towards the community of Akourdalia, the entire fire brigade of the Pafos district was mobilized. It was even deemed necessary to call forces from Larnaka to meet the needs of Pafos.
Mr. Kettis described the frequency of fires as unprecedented. All firefighters, he said, are on a 24-hour basis, on foot to deal with the successive fires from one province to another. He also pointed out the understaffing issues faced by the service and personnel management.
