After four years, access to Petra tou Romiou, which was not possible due to landslides, was restored at the end of last January and has already gained daily traffic from the numerous visitors of the world heritage site. Now, however, the competent authorities are also preparing for the second phase of improvement of this road network.
The section of the road to Petra tou Romiou, from the area of Pissouri to the area of Ha-Potami, remained out of circulation for the last four years due to the significant difficulties that existed, which also increased the cost from the initial €700,000 that had been estimated, to €4 million.
The second phase of the restoration works will be carried out on the basis of the tender documents already prepared by the Department of Public Works and the estimated cost of expenditure amounts to €4 million.
The works completed in the first phase concerned the stabilization of this section of the Paphos-Limassol road through the creation of stabilization works, new road construction and subsoil sanitation works. With the improvement works that took place in the area, viewing points of the monument have been created for visitors.
