The 15-member special team of the Limassol Police Directorate rolled up its sleeves and started intensive checks yesterday to combat the phenomenon of lambratzia. In addition to the checks that will be carried out every night in various problematic areas of the city and province, the members of the Force will daily together with representatives from the local authorities and crews of the Municipalities proceed to the removal of dangerous objects found in church courtyards.
Indicative of the whole situation with lambratzias, the case of the church of Agios Nikolaos in Kato Polemidia and what was found. During yesterday's inspection, wood, stones and other dangerous objects were found which were gathered in various places around the churchyard.
According to "F's" information, the crews of the Municipality of Kato Polemidia removed large piles of wood that had to be loaded into 20 small trucks. Also, the young offenders had collected dozens of stones which they had hidden in specific places. To remove them, they had to be loaded into a double-cab vehicle. Since yesterday, the special team consisting of 15 police officers, led by an officer, has been patrolling a total of 27 churches in the city and district of Limassol. Previously, problem areas where hazardous objects will be removed were mapped and a plan has been drawn up with sectors in the city and countryside.
The problem areas are 4-5, while on Good Friday and Holy Saturday the measures will be increased and support will be requested from the MMAD with special teams in order to deal dynamically with almost all incidents.
