With modest magnificence, in accordance with the spirit of the days and the Greek Orthodox tradition, Holy Easter will be celebrated again this year in the city of Pafos.
With the main aim of highlighting this spirit, the Holy Metropolis of Pafos, the Municipality of Pafos, the 8th Infantry Regiment of the National Guard, the Pafos Police Department, the Youth Organisation "Stavraetoi" and the District Ephorate of the Cyprus Scout Corps undertook once again this year the organization of the religious ceremonies of Good Friday and Holy Saturday in the city of Pafos.
More specifically, the following established ceremonies are planned, focusing on St. Theodore's Cathedral.
Good Friday 14 April 2023
The procession of the Epitaph of St. Theodore Cathedral will begin around 9.30 p.m. and will follow the following route:
Agiou Theodorou Street – Kostis Palamas Square – 25th March Street – Dionysiou Solomos Square – Griva Digeni Avenue – 28th October Square.
For the procession, the established procession will be formed, with the participation of the Holy Clergy and the dignitaries. It will be preceded by the Pafos Municipality Philharmonic and will be accompanied by a contingent of the National Guard, the Youth Organization "Stavraetoi" and a group of scouts with torches.
In the 28th of October Square, the Epitaph of the Cathedral of Agios Theodoros will be placed and a prayer will be sung, from a platform, officiated by the Metropolitan of Pafos Tychikos. A special tone will be given to the whole ceremony by the Choir of the Pafos Music Club, which will sing the Lamentation of the Epitaph.
The Pafos Police Department has made special arrangements for the smooth conduct of the ceremonies and the avoidance of traffic jams.
More specifically, from 5.00 p.m. on Good Friday, it will be prohibited to park vehicles and other wheeled vehicles on 25th March Street and from 8.30 p.m. on the streets through which the procession will pass.
To meet the increased parking needs, the stadium of the Nikolaideio Gymnasium (G.S. Koroivos), the parking area next to it, the 7th Elementary School, the new Kennedy Square Parking Area, the Government Buildings Parking and Apostolou Pavlou Avenue will be used.
The Pafos Municipality and the Pafos Police Department call on drivers to faithfully implement the relevant measures and to cooperate with the officers of the Traffic Police and the Traffic Police Service of the Pafos Municipality to avoid problems.
Holy Saturday 15 April 2023
At midnight on Holy Saturday, the Resurrection Service will take place in the Holy Churches of our City.
On this occasion, the Municipality of Pafos appeals to the public and especially to young people not to use firecrackers and other prohibited pyrotechnic articles, which can pose an immediate risk to their health and able-bodiedness.
