PAPHOS GENERAL HOSPITAL - WORK STOPPAGE 20 APRIL AT EMERGENCY DEPT

 Filenews 11 April 2023

PASYKI will go on a three-hour work stoppage on Thursday, April 20, over the problem of understaffing of the Paphos Hospital's Emergency Department. The work stoppage will begin at 9:00am.

In a statement, it is noted that the time requested to find workable solutions to the severe understaffing of the Department has been granted, but the only practical result experienced by the remaining doctors is another resignation of a colleague, the union argues.

"Until we find two doctors, we are now looking for at least three, persisting in an unsuccessful pattern of communication that has unfortunately poisoned and eroded the foundations of public hospitals," the statement said. "The imaginative decisions to transfer doctors from other public hospitals, as well as the particularly dangerous decisions of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Health Organization in relation to the operation of the Emergency Departments, lack medical logic."

PASYKI says that no further time credit can be granted, because this means co-responsibility. For this reason, he concludes, he reinstates the three-hour work stoppage, which was suspended and calls on the SHSO to immediately and definitively withdraw the decisions of April 6.
