SCAMS IN THE NAME OF ANTI-CANCER CHARITY

 Filenews 11 April 2023

Fraudsters claiming to conduct a fundraiser in support of the Anti-Cancer Society visit homes and extort money illegally, said the association, which has received such complaints in the Nicosia and Larnaka districts.

In an announcement, the Anti-Cancer Society states that its fundraiser is carried out having secured the relevant Fundraising License from the Ministry of Interior, a photocopy of which is carried by all volunteers who for each donation give back a relevant card with the distinctive logos of the campaign and the number of the aforementioned Fundraising License.

The fundraiser is carried out by volunteers outside shops and supermarkets and is by no means door-to-door, it said.

In the announcement issued by Anticancer Society, the public is urged to report such incidents to the competent police authorities.

"It is sad for the Anti-Cancer Society and the purpose we serve to be confronted with these illegal incidents," said the Association's Head of Communication, Nikoleta Athanasiadou.

"We remain committed to our work and continue to offer our services to thousands of our fellow human beings with cancer experience and we are confident that the Cypriot society will continue to support the work of the Cyprus Anticancer Society in the fundraiser that is always carried out on the basis of all legal procedures," he said.
